Attendance-Report an Absence

The Faribault Public Schools (FPS) Board believes that school attendance is important. Educators and parents must work together to prepare students to earn a living and to function as informed, critical citizens in a democratic and globalized society. The stakes are high. Regular attendance at school maximizes learning for all students. FPS has designed programs to support families and children in keeping children in school and combating truancy and educational neglect. It is the district’s obligation to have systems in place to work with children and families when children do not attend school.

When your child is absent from school (i.e. illness, late due to an appointment), please remember to call us. To ensure that our students are safe, the office staff will be contacting families, at home or work, when we do not receive a call.

Messages can be left on our 24 hour voicemail any time.
Please call the attendance line by 8:30 a.m. 507-333-6701
When your child returns to school, a note needs to be sent to the office , indicating the nature of the absence.
Students must report to the office for a pass, for any reason, they arrive at school after the 8:15 a.m. bell.

Pick Up / Drop Off Procedures

Teachers are involved in meetings and preparation before school and are not available to provide supervision prior to the first bell. Playground supervisors are on duty from 7:45 a.m. to the opening bell in the morning. After school, students will be dismissed in an orderly manner by their classroom teacher.

  • Please do not leave your car unattended at the curb during drop-off/pick-up times.
  • Parents who prefer to come in and wait should enter ONLY through the main entrance and wait by the office.
  • Parents should not wait outside their child’s classroom.
  • Children are expected to leave the school grounds and go directly home.

Roosevelt Elementary School is a community where we take responsibility for our learning, show respect for ourselves and others and promote a positive and safe learning environment. At Roosevelt we believe EACH child is special in his or her own way.  Children benefit from positive role models and the staff set high learning expectations for all students.  Our staff offer leadership, which allows these expectations to be achieved in a supportive and caring environment. We want our students at Roosevelt to have a desire to learn and to feel successful!  A vital part of a successful student is active parent involvement and at Roosevelt we welcome parents to volunteer, participate in school events, and be a part of our school's Parent/Teacher Organization!
